New Roundabout Construction Underway

Roundabout Phase I

The new Mt. Werner/Ski Time Square Roundabout project will begin construction on Phase I starting at 7am on Monday, July 9. Duckels Construction has divided the Roundabout Project into two phases focused on two separate work zones.

Phase I work in the southern zone between the Steamboat Grand shops and the Gondola Square parking garage runs from July 9 through September 17.  Phase II in the northern zone between the Steamboat Grand porte-cochere and the Ski Time Square parking garage goes from September 13 through November 1.

Beginning on Monday, Duckels will set up temporary erosion and traffic control devices, remove sections of concrete medians near the Gondola Transit Center and the Steamboat Grand, and, install a temporary exit from the Steamboat Grand. These three items will be finalized before closing the Phase I work zone to traffic, anticipated that same week.

In addition, project efforts during the Phase I closure will focus on continued site preparation and material removal, new concrete and the snowmelt system in front of the Grand businesses along Mt. Werner Circle.

During Phase I, traffic accessing Ski Time Square will need to turn left and utilize the north portion of Mt. Werner Circle, headed toward the Steamboat Grand. Vehicles from Apres Ski Way or Eagleridge Drive looking to access Ski Time Square will need to head west on Mt. Werner Circle, then turn right toward the Steamboat Grand and follow detour signage. Those accessing Gondola Square should remain on the south portion of Mt. Werner Circle.

Steamboat Springs Transit (SST) passengers accessing Ski Time Square and Burgess Creek bus stop will need to use the Gondola Transit Center as service into these locations will not occur during the project. Pedestrian access between the closed stops and the Gondola Transit Center will be maintained and signed. SST buses will be required to use a temporary turn around at the Transit Center and remain on the south side of Mt. Werner Circle.

Maintaining access to all businesses is a priority during the project. Ongoing public information meetings related to the new roundabout are scheduled to occur every two weeks, with the next meeting scheduled for July 20. The bi-weekly meetings take place in the Mountain View Foyer of the Steamboat Grand (2300 Mt. Werner Circle) from 9AM to 10AM, unless otherwise noted, and will provide project and construction updates.
