Staying Safe While Enjoying Our Community Ski Hill

Howelsen Hill Ski Area and Nordic Center plans to open on Saturday, November 28, 2020. As you can expect, there will be some changes to our operations this season in order to abide by the rules and guidelines set forth by our local and state health officials. The protocols listed below will be in place to help keep our guests, staff and community safe throughout the season. All guests will be asked to follow these protocols when visiting Howelsen Hill this season. 

Please note that these guidelines and operating procedures are subject to change at anytime, and that all state and local health orders will supersede these rules and guidelines. 

Before you visit, please consider the following:

  • If you are feeling sick, have a fever, or are exhibiting any COVID-19 symptoms, please stay home.
  • Access to our indoor facilities will be extremely limited or closed completely. Please be prepared to ski/ride when you arrive at Howelsen Hill (all clothing and equipment will need to be put on at your vehicle, as there will be limited access to the Howelsen Hill Lodge this season.
  • Guests should avoid congregating in groups in the parking lots, base area, or anywhere within the Howelsen Park campus and continue to practice proper social distancing. 
  • Face coverings will be required anytime guests are indoors, communicating with staff, waiting in lift lines, loading lifts, or anytime that a minimum distance of 6 feet is not possible. 
  • Guests will be asked to practice social distancing and allow for at least 6 feet of social distancing between themselves and other guests. 
  • Weekends (Saturday/Sunday) are typically our busiest days. If you want to avoid the busier days, we encourage you to visit Howelsen Hill during the week if your schedule allows (note however that the chair lift only operates on Saturday and Sunday). 
  • Holidays also tend to be busier at Howelsen Hill. This season these days include December 26 through January 3 (Christmas & New Years), January 16 through 18 ( MLK Weekend), February 3 through 7 (Winter Carnival) and February 13 through 15 (President's Weekend).

Indoor Rules & Guidelines

  • Face coverings must be worn at all times when indoors.
  • Food cannot be consumer inside the Howelsen Hill Lodge this operating season. 
  • Guests must maintain social distancing of at least 6 feet whenever possible and should not remain inside the Howelsen Hill Lodge any longer than necessary. 

Outdoor Rules & Guidelines

  • Do not congregate in large groups anywhere outdoors and remain socially distanced whenever possible. 
  • Face coverings should be worn in all high traffic areas (base area, lift lines, etc.) or whenever 6 feet social distancing cannot be achieved. 
  • Face coverings are not required when actively skiing or engaging in strenuous activity, however, please be conscious of other guests and maintain as much distance from others as possible. 

Lift Rules & Guidelines

  • Face coverings must be worn at all times when waiting in lift lines, loading lifts, and riding lifts.
  • Cohorts and/or family members may ride the lift together. 
  • Follow markings/signage in the line mazes to help maintain 6 feet social distancing between guests. 
  • Make sure that your pass/ticket is easily visible. Be prepared to show your pass/ticket to the lift attendants so that they can easily check them from a distance. If your pass/ticket is not easily visible you will not be allowed to load the lift.
